What is ultrasound in physiotherapy?

Ultrasound (also called musculoskeletal ultrasound) is an imaging technique that visualises muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursas and joints. Using sound waves, we bring structures under the skin into razor-sharp focus. This technique is painless, safe and directly applicable in our practice.

Ultrasound physiotherapy uses this technique to identify the exact cause of your complaint. During the intake, the physiotherapist will check whether a physiotherapy ultrasound makes sense to use for your problem. The big advantage is that you get immediate insight into the possible damage or irritation to structures in the body, such as bursitis, trigger finger, cuff rupture in a shoulder, bicep tendinitis, heel spur, osgood schlatter and osteoarthritis.

When do we use ultrasound?

Echo physiotherapy is particularly valuable for long-term or difficult to pinpoint musculoskeletal complaints. These are often injuries or conditions where the cause is not immediately visible or palpable during a physical examination. Examples include complaints such as bursitis in the shoulder or hip, a trigger finger where a finger bends or stretches with jerks, a cuff rupture where one of the tendons in the shoulder is torn, or bicep tendinitis, where the tendon of the biceps is inflamed.

Heel spur, a painful calcification under the heel, and growth-related complaints such as Osgood-Schlatter in adolescents, can also be properly visualised with ultrasound. Even degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis are better assessed with this technique, as the degree of wear and tear in the joint can be seen more accurately.

Through a physiotherapy ultrasound, we at Fysio Fitaal can determine exactly what is going on and where the problem is located. This clarity enables us to tailor the treatment plan precisely to your situation. Unnecessary treatments are thus prevented, and the road to recovery is more efficient and targeted. In this way, we ensure that you can work quickly and responsibly on the recovery of your symptoms.

Count on prompt and expert ultrasound care at Physio Fitaal

Echo care within Physio Fitaal is readily available and performed by specially trained physiotherapists experienced in imaging diagnostics. We take the time to fully analyse your symptoms and combine the ultrasound findings with a thorough physical screening. This combination makes our approach extra powerful.

You do not need a referral letter from your GP or specialist to use ultrasound physiotherapy with us. We can discuss the images with you directly, possibly also referring them to your GP or orthopaedic specialist if necessary.

Pleasant ultrasound physiotherapy at Fysio Fitaal

Fysio Fitaal in Tilburg specialises in muscle and joint complaints and works according to the latest scientific insights. Ultrasound connects seamlessly to this: we want to know exactly what is going on in order to provide targeted treatment. Because we have direct access to ultrasound care within the practice, we can switch quickly and draw up a clear treatment plan. Our therapists have specialist knowledge of tendon and muscle injuries and consult closely with each other for more complex complaints. We only use ultrasound when it really adds value to the recovery. It is precisely this careful approach that makes the difference.

Echo physiotherapy as part of your treatment plan

A physiotherapy ultrasound is not a separate component, but an integral part of a personalised treatment plan. After using ultrasound to visualise the complaint, we start targeted physiotherapy interventions. Think of manual therapy, exercise therapy, dry needling or shockwave, depending on the nature of the complaint.

We closely monitor your progress, and in case of doubt or recurring symptoms, we can reinstate the ultrasound to reassess the situation. This way, we keep control over the recovery process and make sure you keep moving forward step by step.

What does a physiotherapy ultrasound cost?

In many cases, ultrasound care is reimbursed under the supplementary insurance, provided it is performed within a physiotherapy treatment programme. Because Fysio Fitaal has contracts with almost all health insurers, we can claim the costs directly in most cases. Would you like to know whether your health insurance will cover ultrasound? Then contact us and we will check with you.
