Cool brace

The Cool Brace is a cold therapy device/system that consists of a special brace or cuff placed around a joint (usually knee, shoulder or ankle) and connected to a chiller. The device continuously circulates cold water through the brace, applying prolonged, controlled cold to the injured or operated area. This system provides more consistent cooling than traditional ice packs and is especially popular in post-operative care and acute injury treatment.

Cool Brace

Purpose of the device

Therapeutic aid for pain relief, swelling reduction and anti-inflammation after operations, acute injuries or for chronic pain. Reduces oedema (fluid accumulation), lowers tissue temperature and helps manage post-operative pain. Also effective for accelerating recovery by dampening inflammatory response and improving comfort during rehabilitation.

Supplies

  • Cool Brace system (chiller + brace/cuff)
  • Electricity (for chiller)
  • Water/ice (depending on model)
  • Towel or protective layer between skin and brace (optional, depending on model)

Use

  1. Fill the chiller with water and ice (according to instructions)
  2. Connect the brace to the chiller
  3. Place the brace around the affected joint
  4. Make sure the brace is snug but not too tight
  5. Start the chiller
  6. The system circulates cold water through the brace
  7. Use as directed (usually 20-30 minutes per session)
  8. Multiple sessions per day possible (usually 3-6x)

Points of interest

  • ✓ Follow instructions from doctor or physiotherapist for duration of use
  • ✓ Check skin condition regularly during use
  • ✓ Use protective layer if skin is sensitive
  • ✓ Keep the brace clean according to instructions
  • ✓ Make sure the brace fits well (not too tight, not too loose)
  • ✗ Avoid excessively long sessions (increased risk of cold burns)
  • ✗ Do not use with reduced sensitivity without supervision
  • ✗ Do not place directly on open wounds
  • ✗ Do not sleep with the device on (unless specifically prescribed)
  • ✗ Do not use in case of circulation problems without medical advice

When this device?

This device is suitable immediately after surgery (cruciate ligament, meniscus, shoulder, total knee or hip replacement) for pain relief and swelling reduction during the first 3-7 days. Ideal for acute sports injuries (sprains, contusions) in the first 48-72 hours. Very effective in early post-operative phase to reduce opioid use. Also valuable in chronic pain conditions where cooling helps. Often used at home after hospital discharge. Not suitable in Raynaud's syndrome, severe circulation problems or reduced sensitivity without medical supervision. Always use as directed by doctor or physiotherapist.
