Trochanteric major pain syndrome

The trochanter major is a protruding piece of bone on the outside of the thigh. Several things can lead to irritation of this area resulting in symptoms such as pain and stiffness. The diagnosis of trochanter major pain syndrome can be made by the physiotherapists at Fysiofitaal Tilburg. They will use information from the intake interview combined with extensive physical examination for this purpose. Besides making the diagnosis, you have also come to the right place for treatment of the complaints! A combination of forms of therapy will ensure proper recovery.

Making an appointment

The trochanter major is a protruding piece of bone on the outside of the thigh. It is a bone point on which there is a bursa (bursa) that aims to make movements as smooth as possible. In trochanter major pain syndrome, there is often irritation of the bursa and/or surrounding structures such as muscles. This may be due to weakening muscles, overuse or stiffness.

Complaints and symptoms

If you have trochanteric major pain syndrome, you may experience symptoms such as stiffness in the hip (muscles), stiffness in the leg, pain when lying down on the affected side, pain and/or stiffness when sitting for long periods of time. Walking can also trigger symptoms, this is often especially in the first few steps after resting.

Diagnosis and examination

The diagnosis of trochanteric major pain syndrome can be made from the intake interview combined with extensive examination of the hip and possibly the adjacent region. For example, the physiotherapist can look at where the pain is felt, assess the mobility and strength of the hip.

Treatments and prognosis

Treatment of a trochanteric major pain syndrome will be shaped by education, exercise therapy and, where necessary, hands-on treatment by the physiotherapist. Homework exercises may also be part of the treatment. For recovery from a trochanter major pain syndrome, Fysiofitaal Tilburg is the right place to be!
