Throwing elbow
A throwing elbow can be caused by trauma, but also by repeated throwing with incorrect technique. Physiotherapy can reduce symptoms in pitcher's elbow through targeted advice and physical treatment.

The causes of throwing elbow can vary. There may be trauma, or an incorrect pattern during throwing. Often, there is a strain or tear in the medial collateral ligament of the elbow. This ligament is a band that is located on the inside of the elbow and gives stability to the elbow which is important during, for example, throwing a ball but also certainly during somewhat heavier activities such as housework.
Complaints and symptoms
With a pitcher's elbow, there is particularly pain on the inside of the elbow. The symptoms occur particularly during throwing during sports. Besides pain, the elbow can also feel unstable.
Diagnosis and examination
The therapists at Fysiofitaal Tilburg can diagnose throwing elbow for you. They do this on the basis of an interview (anamnesis) and extensive physical examination. In addition to the general physical examination, the therapist performs a number of specific tests that show whether you actually have a pitcher's elbow.
Treatments and prognosis
At Fysiofitaal Tilburg, a throwing elbow is treated with the aim of reducing pain and improving muscle strength in the elbow region. Therapy consists of giving personalised advice, exercise therapy and, where necessary, mobilisations or manual therapy. It is important that, in addition to visits to your therapist, you engage in your own homework exercises.
